IFDA New York chapter hosts seminar on color

NEW YORK – The International Furnishings and Design Assn. New York Chapter is hosting a seminar exploring the use of color in home furnishings.

“The Soul & Science of Color – From Theory to Selection” will feature presentations from fashion and design experts Nancy Fire and Betsy Karp. In a discussion aimed at both retailers and consumers, they will discuss the impact of color on trends and product.

The event will be held the morning of Aug. 13 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Room 1A-01. Coffee and networking begins at 8:30 a.m. and the presentations start at 9 a.m.

Fire is the founder of Design Works International, a lifestyle company in New York City that serves as a design think tank and working studio for textiles and home furnishings.

Karp, also known in industry circles as “The Color Coach," has had a 30-year career as a fashion designer and color expert. She also is an avid traveler whose column, “The Courtesan of Color, is featured in LumiNation magazine.

The event costs $25 for IFDA members and $45 for non-members. There is no charge for IFDA students and for non-member students the charge is $10.

Reservations made after Aug. 9 increase the fees as follows: IFDA members - $40; non-members $60; IFDA students - $10 and non-member students $20.
